Technical Brewing Projects Coordinator

Kaylyn Kirkpatrick is the Technical Brewing Projects Coordinator for the Brewers Association. Before starting at the BA, Kaylyn managed the Cornell University Brewing Extension program which provides analytical lab services, educational content, and brewing resources to the craft beer community in New York state. Kaylyn earned her bachelors degree in biochemistry from Colorado State University and a masters degree in food science from Oregon State University, where she studied in the Brewing Science Lab. She has a brewing and distilling diploma from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London and previously worked as a beer chemist at New Belgium Brewing Co. in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The Taprooms Committee's main objective is to foster the sharing of resources and ideas between taproom class breweries. As taproom brewery revenue is generated mainly from onsite sales, the committee’s job is to create resources that help breweries find ways to get customers to come to the taproom, stay a while, and keep coming back.

The Marketing Development Committee works to build awareness for the vitality of the craft beer segment through media and vehicles such as tradeshows, publications, sell sheets, and events. The member-run committee creates opportunities for independent brewers to meet chain buyers and distributors, provides educational and sales tools for distributors and retailers to continue to build craft, and creates initiatives to profitably and responsibly grow the share of craft in all retail classes of trade.

The Supply Chain Subcommittee is concerned with the ingredients and materials that are used to brew and package craft beers. By monitoring hop and barley harvest, interacting with growers and examining packaging supplies, and monitoring glass and can markets, the Supply Chain Subcommittee works to ensure a stable marketplace and provide educational resources to the brewing community on best practices for sourcing and selecting ingredients and packaging materials to suit their beers.
